The 1990-91 release marked SkyBox’s debut in the basketball card market, introducing the colorful computer-generated backgrounds, gold-bordered photography, and upscale presentation that helped make the brand instantly recognizable. The complete set contains 423 cards, with Series 1 covering cards #1-300 and Series 2 adding cards #301-423.

Each Series 2 hobby box contains 36 packs with 15 cards per pack, for a total of 540 cards. Series 2 packs contain a mixture of cards from both portions of the checklist rather than exclusively cards #301-423, giving collectors opportunities to pull players from throughout the release.

Series 2 introduced several notable subsets, including Coaches, Team Checklists, Lottery Picks, Updates, and Checklists. Among the biggest cards associated with the series is the Gary Payton rookie card #365, along with rookie cards of players such as Derrick Coleman and other members of the 1990 draft class.
