Cards like this are a good reminder that 1990s inserts and refractors continue to have real appeal when the player, grade, and design all line up.

2023 Topps Big League 8-Bit Ballers Shohei Ohtani #8B-3 CGC 10 Gem Mint — $52 Winning Bid / $62.40 Buyer Price

Ohtani continues to attract attention across a wide range of products and price points. This was not a rookie, autograph, or numbered parallel, but the fun 8-Bit Ballers design paired with a CGC 10 grade helped it stand out.

Modern Ohtani slabs remain easy cards for collectors to understand, especially when the card has a distinct design hook.

2025 Topps Signature Class Pure Cooper Flagg Rookie #PU-16 CGC 10 Gem Mint — $41 Winning Bid / $49.20 Buyer Price

Cooper Flagg was one of the strongest modern rookie names in this week’s auction. The CGC 10 grade helped push this result near the top of the group, and it also finished with one of the highest bid counts of the week.

This is the type of modern basketball card that can draw interest because of the player name first, even without needing to be a major parallel or autograph.

This was the strongest Bowman result of the week. Misiorowski’s rookie card brought solid bidding activity, finishing with 11 bids and landing fourth overall by winning bid.

Modern Bowman rookies and prospects can still perform well in weekly auctions when there is a clear player-interest angle and a strong grade attached.

Ken Griffey Jr. remains one of the safest collector names in the hobby, and 1990s Bowman Chrome adds another layer of appeal. This card also drew 12 bids, making it one of the most active listings of the week.

The final price stayed accessible, but the bidding activity showed that collectors were watching.

Market Notes From The Week

The top end of Weekly Auction #234 was led by clear collector hooks: a Cal Ripken Jr. Atomic Refractor in CGC 10, a Shohei Ohtani CGC 10 with a fun modern insert design, a Cooper Flagg rookie, and a Jacob Misiorowski Bowman rookie.

At the same time, most of the auction remained very affordable. Out of 33 sold listings, 27 finished at $15 or less, and 29 finished at $25 or less. That is the kind of spread that can appeal to both focused player collectors and buyers looking for value.

Baseball carried most of the activity this week, especially with names like Ripken, Ohtani, Griffey, Halladay, Mookie Betts, Derek Jeter, Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, and Bowman rookies/prospects. But the auction also had a broader collector mix with Cooper Flagg and VJ Edgecombe in basketball, Ladd McConkey in football, Endrick in soccer, and several Topps Graphite tennis cards.
